Right to Commercial Lease Renewal

“Small Business Jobs Survival Act” protects leases for cultural spaces and create the right to commercial lease renewal. Pass #SBJSA!

Cultural spaces are in jeopardy and disappearing every day due to rising rents. Pass “Small Business Jobs Survival Act” (Intro 737) to help preserve diverse community spaces in NYC. There will be a public hearing Oct 22, 2018 at City Hall.

SBJSA mandates that a commercial lease holder has the right to renew their lease for a period of 10 years.

If the tenant and landlord cannot agree on the rental amount, either can hire an arbitrator to set the rental amount.

Not everyone can afford an arbitrator though, the City Council must include a legal defense fund for tenants.
